JKS was established in 1990 by Melvyn and Julie Moult who, with 15 years combined
experience in the trade, began by manufacturing and fitting bespoke joinery to the
general public, although it was the long term aim to eventually move into the
shopfitting industry.
The first year of trading was made up mainly of small private domestic contracts which
doubled in the second year. It was in this second year that the business moved into a
1200 sq. ft work unit rented through Hinckley Workspace.

During the next few years, Melvyn and Julie expanded their customer base to include such
clients as Wm Morrison plc, Asda, Somerfield, Vodaphone, and Ford and Rover Garages, thus
achieving their aim to penetrate the shopfitting market. They formed a limited company in
1995.
Having already relocated to larger premises by this time, the increasing demand for their
services meant they required even more space for development. Finding enough rental space
for their needs soon proved to be virtually impossible and so Melvyn and Julie decided to
look for a suitable smallholding where they could both live and work.
